My unit covers the analysis of texts using outside influential information such as history, culture, author, and the audience. I ordered my unit beginning with vocabulary because the differentiation that was covered in the book pertained to vocabulary. Opening the unit focusing on more difficult words that will help the entirety of the class understand what they are learning and make later lessons less complex. Also, students can use their knowledge and any notes after the vocabulary lesson during the upcoming lessons. I followed vocabulary with a direct instruction plan on the historical influences of a text, focusing on the Holocaust. Because the vocabulary lesson was mostly student initiated I felt this would be a good time for me to direct a lesson. Third, I chose the concept lesson plan focusing on the cultural influence in a text. This goes hand in hand with historical influences; it is appropriate they are next to each other. Fourth, I chose my cooperative lesson plan, the audience’s influence. Both the culture and the historical influences can influence the audience as well. Last I chose inquiry, which recapped all four lessons previously given.
